Long subwoofer (AW-440) and speaker (NuBox 310) cables

Hi all,

I need a 23-metre-long cable to connect my AW-440 subwoofer to my receiver (YAMAHA RXV-750), but am unable to find one: the maximum length for subwoofer cables appears to be around 15 m. Is it possible to connect two different cables, and if so, is this a good idea, or would it have an adverse effect on the sound quality? Are there any other solutions to this problem?

For the surround speakers - 2 x NuBox 310 - I need a 25- and a 20-metre-long cable respectively. Would Nubert's 2 x 2,5 mm cable be good enough, or should I go for 2 x 4 mm?

In case you're wondering: the reason these cables have to be so long is not that I have a huge living room, but that I have to make some serious detours along curtain rails etc. if I don't want the cables to be in full view.

I think your detours are very big!!
A 2*4mm cable iss not good enough. The resistance and capacity will be very big if you make so much serious detours!

I think you mast lay the cables in a other way!

Avoid so large detours!!

Why should it be a problem to take 2x4mm for 25 meters? I have seen it often in bigger Homecinemas.


For the subwoofer cables use an adapter and fit two together if you using good quality cables I think no prob at all.


But:

For the subwoofer signal, I would prefer a cable in one run.
Standard coaxial antenna cable should be quite good. You only have to solder an RCA/Cinch plug to each end.
The cables are shielded, mostly even twice.
Another advantage of antenna / satellite dish cable is the low price.
Remember: The sub signal is a low frequency signal, not far away from DC.
The 75 Ohm impedance of these cables refers to RF signals.
It is not applicable for low frequencies and therefore should not cause any problems.

Could you please explain why? I noticed Nubert offers a Y-adapter for sale (http://www.nubert.de/shop/pd1105913932.htm?defaultVariants=search0_EQ_1%20x%20Kupplung,%202%20x%20Stecker_AND_{EOL}&categoryId=15): doesn't this come down to the same thing as using a nuCable Y-Sub 5 (http://www.nubert.de/shop/pd1253606545.htm?defaultVariants=search0_EQ_2,0%20m_AND_{EOL}&categoryId=15) in combination with a nuCable Audio 5 (http://www.nubert.de/shop/pd300187188.htm?defaultVariants=search0_EQ_1,0%20m_AND_{EOL}&categoryId=16) - supposing I manage to find an adapter piece that would allow me to do this (suggestions always welcome)?

This sounds like an interesting suggestion - are you sure this would work? And would I still need to get a Y-adapter, or wouldn't that make any real difference?

Yes, it will work in a perfect way! A video cable is just better than an standard audio cable (the shield is even better).
But you have to have any experience in soldering....

The Y-adapter is not necessary, but it provides a higher input level to the subwoofer.
You can try it without Y-adapter first.

If you need a Y-adaptor, you always have at least one plug-connection in the cable.
If the mono subwoofer cable is long enough, use it with the Y-adaptor.

With the two cables you mentioned, you would have two plug connections:
From cable 1 to a female-female-connector, then to cable 2.
If you don't want to solder, the most simple solution would be to buy a long Y cable like the Nubert (with 3 male plugs). If it is not long enough, buy an extra mono extension cable (female plug, male plug). You can ask at Nubert hotline if they have such. If not, try online shops like al-kabelshop.de or reichelt.de.
So you have only one plug connection.
I don't believe in "cable sound", but i prefer to have a minimum of plugs in the signal way.
I think: a non-existing plug is better than the best plug you can buy.

Yes, it will work in a perfect way! A video cable is just better than an standard audio cable (the shield is even better).

As far as I know, a coaxial antenna cable is not as flexibel as a speaker or cinch cable. So if you have to go around tight corners, you might break the conductor in the antenna cable.

However, I am not an expert...
